As an American citizen with a son serving in the military half way around the world, I’m even more acutely aware of the sacrifices involved for our soldiers and their families, and I want to thank every person who provides for our country’s freedom! Thank you!!!!May we never forget that our comfort and safety has much to do with their discomfort and hard work. But, as we celebrate our freedoms, it would be good to pause long enough to consider the terrible price of war and the real purpose of America’s Veterans Day celebration. The fight has been to end oppression so that we can have peace on earth, not just for Americans, but for everyone throughout the world. As the Chinese say, “We all live under the same sky.”As citizens of a free nation, may we remember why we’ve been given this precious gift: “Use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another” (Galatians 5:13). Both within our own nation, and around the world, there are still many oppressed people who are still suffering enslavement, and those of us who are free need to help those who are not. We also need to pray that those who have the power to help—both at home and abroad—will make wise choices to bring world peace, not world dominion. In my heart, I don’t believe we’ll truly have peace on earth until the Lord Jesus Christ comes back, and so I also pray that the One who died for us will come again and reign over us. Then there will be liberty and justice for all as well as peace and good will…not just for some, but for every person living on earth.
