Well, I haven’t been satisfied with my inability to explain the Grand Canyon video I watched where Dr. Snelling lectured on the evidences that have persuaded him to believe in an early earth creation, so I watched it again this morning, and then discovered—to my delight—that the entire lecture is available free on YouTube for anybody who’s interested:
I wrote detailed notes but then realized there is no way I can explain his lecture in a simple blog post, so I’m going to give you a very few of the highlights and then a series of slides, which might encourage your faith or inspire you to watch the entire lecture (which is about an hour). The reason the Grand Canyon is a magnet for geologists is that the “canyon has been cut so deeply into the earth to expose a representative detailed strata sequence spanning much of the earth’s history. Furthermore, that span of earth history is made even more comprehensive when the strata sequence of the Grand Staircase, which outcrops to the north above the Canyon rims, is added to the unfolding ‘story’.” Dr. Snelling explains what we should see if the biblical account is true, and then proceeds to show how the rock stratas actually conform to expectation. Near the end of the lecture, he also points out that conventional dating methods are inconsistent with the evidence, since the dating methods say both the Cardenas Basalts (during the precambrian era) and relatively recent basalt lava flows are both considered to be relatively similar in age (many millions of years).
Hope this doesn’t bore you (in which case, I know you just won’t bother reading on!), but like everything I write, my desire is to encourage faith in God, whose ways are beyond us, but whose heart and Word can be trusted!“There shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:3-9).
