Happy Valentine’s Day!

“Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:10)

I was inwardly lamenting that I couldn’t use any of the cute forwards on Valentine’s Day that had come my way, when the Holy Spirit whispered in my ear, “Give them a gift of my love.”“Ah, Lord! I can do that!” I thought. “I will share some of the love gifts you’ve given me with them!”So, from my heart to yours, here are a few of my favorite love gifts from God: Joy—”Let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.” (Psalm 5:11)

Peace—”Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)Hope—”Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God” (Psalm 42:11).Promise—”For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off…” (Acts 2:39)New Life: “Jesus said unto her, ‘I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (John 11:25).

And, as if that’s not enough…here are a few of the qualities I love best about God…qualities that he will give us if we will only ask and abide in Him—Purity—”Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow” (Psalm 51:7).Faithfulness—”Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth” (Psalm 119:90).Gentleness—”Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great” (2 Samuel 22:36)Perseverance—”Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, immoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58).Patient…”Longsuffering”…he suffers a long time waiting for us because he loves us so much!—”The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).Power—”For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).Sovereignty— “And God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth'” (Genesis 1:26)

And yet, there are some attributes of God that are uniquely his…

Majesty—”Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine: thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.” 1Chronicles 29:11Glory—”And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, ‘Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever'” (Revelation 5:13).

Happy Valentine’s Day to you! May  your heart be drawn to the One who loves you more than anyone else in the universe!

Sleeping Beauty

kitten sleeping on pianoWell, looks like I was sleeping on the job! Cheryl pointed out that the beautiful picture I’d intended to post didn’t show up. It showed a woman changing from a child to an adult to an old lady, and the caption said something like, “True Beauty…from the face to the heart.”  I would love to become an old lady whose heart radiates the beauty of Jesus!
