Rise Up, My Love (186): The Eyes of God: Still Pools or Flames of Fires?

Seismograph Pool West Thumb Geyser Basin YellowstoneSong of Solomon 5:16 Next, notice his eyes. The eyes of the heavenly groom were as tender and harmless as doves resting by still pools. Compare that to “his eyes were as a flame of fire” (Revelation 1:13). The lover’s eyes are like melted pools of chocolate…melted by the warm sunshine of His love. Easter Fire in Germany 2010The exalted Christ seen at the beginning of Revelation is the Mighty Conqueror poised to defeat Satan, execute divine justice and establish his kingdom of righteousness forever. His eyes burn with the passion of untold thousands of fires of unvindicated sin and millions of days of longsuffering. “Vengeance is mine, I will repay” (Romans 12:19), and the time has come. Oh, dear friend, do you know him as your divine husband…your Kinsman Redeemer who has saved you from sin and loves you with everlasting love? Or, do you fear him as the one who will judge you for your sins and find you guilty of death? Look into his eyes, and let the light expose your sin. Come to him…whether as beloved or feared. Let him cleanse your heart from sin, and find your forgiveness in him so that you can experience the ocean fullness of his love. May his Holy Spirit, like a candle, search the inward parts of each of our hearts (Proverbs 20:27). May we rejoice in the light of his eyes and sing with the psalmist: “The Lord is my light and my salvation” (Psalm 27:1). Then there will be no fear left, only love—for perfect love casts out fear— and we will see in his eyes a picture of peace. We will see them “as the eyes of doves by the rivers of waters.”Abyss Pool West Thumb Geyser Basin Yellowston Park(For anyone who may be curious, I took the photos of the two pools at West Thumb Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park. The bonfire photo was taken in Germany in 2010. Easter bonfires are a tradition there, symbolizing the purging of our sins by the death of Christ for us.)

  1. I’ve been listening to David Jeremiah on Sunday morning TV teaching the Song of Solomon… Have a great week. Love, Susan
