Where in the World Did Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer Come From?

Rudolph the Red-nosed ReindeerThat’s easy, the North Pole, right? That was good enough for me as an 8-year-old, but after spending a night at Weber’s Inn last weekend where the big celebrity has been hanging out, I decided to do a more thorough background check, and I found a story with a very happy ending that I thought you might enjoy hearing too. The story of Rudolph’s rise to fame from undersized misfit to hero was first created back in 1939 as a Christmas advertising promo for Montgomery Ward by a young man named Robert L. May. May was only 34 at the time and had a darling little 4-year-old daughter…but he also had a wife who was terminally ill with cancer. His Rudolph story was an immediate hit, and Montgomery Ward distributed 2.4 million copies that season and 6 million copies by the end of World War 2. The prospects for the copyright license were huge, but because Robert had written it as a paid employee, he had no legal right to any of the royalties for his creation. This was particularly awful, because Robert’s wife had died from cancer during this time and he was totally overwhelmed by medical debts. Thankfully, in 1947 May approached the CEO of Montgomery Ward, Sewell Avery, who must have had a lot of Christmas Spirit in his heart that year, because he turned the copyright over to Robert May, who went from pauper to prince as a result. The legend of Rudolph gained a permanent place in pop culture when May’s brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, wrote a song and lyrics about Rudolph which was picked up and popularized by Gene Autry in 1949. Over the next years, “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer” became a perennial favorite and one of the best-selling secular Christmas songs of all time, second only to “White Christmas.” So, even though Rudolph is really from Chicago, I think he’s got an ice palace up in penguin country now. However, if you want to have your picture taken with him or get his autograph between now and Christmas Eve, try Weber’s Inn! On the other hand, if you want a very shiny nose and to be a hero, I’d try the Moses Method instead: Hang out with God!  🙂

And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.” (Exodus 34:29-30)

  1. Thank you for inviting us to share our thoughts too! I see the goodness of intention in your heart! I must speak the hard truth in love; please don’t shoot the messenger as the Message is in the Word of God: Please don’t try or promote the “Moses Method,” it killed and is killing us (it has reincarnated as ISIS and sharia law). Jesus called it the ‘dispensation of death’, letters carved in stone, came with splendor but faded, as did Mose’s glow as “the ‘law kills but the Spirit gives life”, (ISIS says the law came from a light, archangel gabriel, but we know it was a fallen angel disguised as light as the fruit is killing and death)
But we NOW, unlike Moses who had to put a veil over his face so the Israelites might not see the END of the fading splendor, “have our veils REMOVED IN CHRIST. When we turn to the Lord the veil is removed,” the beast of burden is removed, the horns and red nose are removed; being marked by the beast is gone.
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the GLORY OF THE LORD (not looking back to Mose and the law that KILLED and is still KILLING in the name of religion), are being changed into HIS LIKENESS, the image and likeness of Christ Jesus, from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit” 2 Cor 3:1-18.
It is an eternal Merry Christ Day and everyone is free to celebrate holidays, but know they are of the world and we are of Christ who resurrected, ascended and sent his Spirit to form Christ in us, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:26-27)! This is the true LIGHT that guides us, not a beast. Can you see everything that is good, right and acceptable to God is being counterfeited; led by the beast with false signs/wonders/lights instead of led by the Lamb our shepherd.
Even religion disguised by light as those who say they are servants of righteousness but heart is full of darkness. “Besides this you know what hour it is, how it is full time now for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed; the night is far gone, the day is at hand. Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light…put on the Lord Jesus Christ” Romans 13:11-14 To God be the Glory now and for ever and ever Amen. Hallelujah!!
May we celebrate Jesus’ birth, death, resurrection, ascension and pouring his Holy Spirit and fire upon and in us EVERY DAY as he is the beginning AND the end; the alpha and omega; and we were in Christ before the foundation of the world and only need to wake up and receive what has already been given as coheirs to every promise of the old and new covenants which Jesus fulfilled! It is finished! It is done! “Behold, I make ALL things NEW” (Revelation 21:5; 2 Cor 5:17) “Among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, sho are doomed to pass away. But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glorification…we have the mind of Christ” 1 Cor 2:6-16 To God be the glory!!! Merry Christ Day!!!!
“To the pure everything is pure” “be holy as your Father is holy” “be perfect as your Father is perfect” All of this is only possible in Christ, with his Christ Spirit in us! To God be the glory!!
We can celebrate holidays knowing they are of the world, knowing the origination of everything of the world is the counterfeit light, knowing in Christ we can KNOW our Father and be his sons and brides and not fall for the deception of the evil one and his agenda. We rise above in Jesus’ Name above all names!! God bless you! ~Yvonne

    • Thank you for clarifying what I was trying to say! “Hanging out with God” in the New Testament is completely different from being under bondage to the law, as Christ was the end of the law for us. But, I do believe that in His light we see light, and when His face shines on us, our face also becomes radiant with this love and likeness. You’ve explained things much more thoroughly. That’s lovely! Thank you.
