Okay, so what about the 3 and under set? If you go to discover King Tut or take in a show at the Chaffee Planetarium,
what do you do with the smallest fries? I really recommend taking along a nanny or a granny (like me) to keep babies occupied elsewhere, but I did a little research during my last visit so I could give you some tips on Grand Rapids Public Museum’s Top Tot Attractions! After running some experiments on the somewhat esoteric minds of tiny tots, I’ve concluded that the #1 Top Attraction is always the carousel! Kids feel “all grown up” because they can ride by themselves pretty young. But, kids are never too young for a carousel ride … nor are they ever too old! #2. There’s an entire room devoted to dolls and doll houses near the restrooms. If it’s not rated #2 for boys, it’s definitely #2 for little girls with dads in tow. Judging by its ability to keep children concentrating and busily occupied, I would say the #2 attraction for boys and #3 attraction for girls is the lego table.Amélie worked like a beaver until she’d covered her entire board in neatly arranged single blocks, although Sophie wasn’t nearly as particular! 🙂 #4. Attraction is the Puppet Theater You have to go all the way to the end of the natural history exhibits to find it, but it’s a great place to give tots a chance to relax and have some hands-on fun, and it’s right next door to the kids’ clubhouse, rated by my sample as #5. There was no statistically significant difference between the two contenders for the #6 Attraction, so I deemed it a tie. Girls seem to have a slight preference for the colorful bug cut out, but there was a slightly longer wait for the chance to pose as an astronaut. The #7 Attraction was making music…definitely worth some time! #8 is like unto it: Pressing buttons to hear the sounds of various birds singing. As an added bonus for adults, even the smallest children can push the buttons without adult assistance, so your kids can fight together in peace. 🙂 This is also true of Top Attraction #9, which includes a giant chess set …and all sorts of fun stuff to play with and sit on in the main hallway. The #10 Attraction for Tots is really the #1 Attraction for Adults. There is a wonderful natural history exhibit filled with stuffed animals many in natural settings with helpful information to identify the common birds mammals, fish, insects, plants, …and just about everything else living under God’s bright sun in this area! As an added bonus, if you play the game right your toddler will conk out and have a great afternoon nap!“All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.”
(by Cecil Frances Alexander)
“We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done” (Psalm 78:4).
