I went to Julie Link’s funeral yesterday. Now, most of you have probably never heard of her. All I knew was that she was Jay’s wife, and Jay had taught our Sunday school class several times since we began attending our new church, Calvary. Alan and I had been praying daily for Jay and his wife Julie, who was dying of breast cancer, but it wasn’t until I went to her funeral yesterday that it dawned on me that Julie was “the Julie Link” who was an author, a senior editor for Zondervan, and a contributor for my favorite daily devotional guide, Our Daily Bread.
As I sat listening to the wonderful stories about Julie’s life and ministry, it made me think of Jesus. How many of us have heard about Jesus but don’t really know him? Julie was so much more than a sweet, suffering woman I’d met at a Christmas party who was soon to die. She was a powerhouse who influenced millions and has now passed from death to life! Jesus is so much more than a compassionate teacher who went about doing good, suffered, and died. Jesus lived a perfect life, died to save us from our sins, rose again, has not only influenced but redeemed untold millions, and is now alive in heaven interceding for us!
Do you know Jesus?
“Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory” (1 Peter 1:8).
