Last Tuesday we meandered together through the grounds of Blenheim Palace (the birthplace Winston Churchill), whilst considering some of Churchill’s ever-provocative and inspiring quotes.Blenheim Palace was definitely a favorite for us,and if you’re touring Oxfordshire, England, be sure to stop by if you can! Also, if you have time, they have a wonderful cafeteria with inside… and outdoorseating on a terrace overlooking some of their perfectly manicured grounds. The view alone would have been worth it, but our lunch was also just great! 🙂After a good rest and refreshment break, we left the palace’s inner gardensand trekked the short distance to some of the other estate attractions, such as their adventure playgroundand their butterfly house. In addition to
many delicate, exotic, and beautiful butterflies, the butterfly house was filled with many delicate, exotic, and beautifulflowers…and a tiny waterfall. The other major attraction for us was the Marlborough Maze, which is thesecond largest in the world and really lots of fun!The hedges are just high enough to make it too hard to peek over, and the trick is to find your way to the middle and back out without getting lost.If you can’t find your way, there are a couple of elevated decks to help youfigure out the lay of the land. It typically takes about 25 minutes, but I thinkStephie Sam had it figured out in about 10!All told, we had another A+ visit, and it was with a twinge of regret that we had to leave for our next destination. However, our next stop was to be Oxford, and there was no way in the world we wanted to miss out on seeing Oxford, after hearing Michael’s tales from being a student there, and Jonathan’s tales from teaching there, and so we were eager to keep going. I’ve been thinking…Leaving earth to go to heaven is a little like traveling. You have to leave whatyou know and enjoy. Even if others you love have gone on before and assure youthat it’s worth the trip, it’s still intimidating and takes a lot of faith to make thetransition to new life with peace and confidence.
